These sweet decorations look beautiful hanging from the christmas tree, but can also be given as a Christmas keepsake gift, or attach them to your presents alongside a name tag to add a lovely touch to your gift wrapping.

To make these decorations, you will need:

  • 2mm crochet hook
  • Assorted colours of embroidery thread
  • Scissors

*MC=Magic Circle                                                                                                                                                  DC=Double Crochet                                                                                                                                            CH=Chain                                                                                                                                                              SS=Slip Stitch                                                                                                                                                      SC=Single Crochet

Round 1:

  • To begin, make a magic circle
  • Chain 3 (this will count as 1 DC)
  • Into the MC, crochet 20 DC (including the first CH3)
  • SS into the top of the CH3 (change colour now)
  • Pull tail on MC to close

Round 2:

  • CH3
  • DC into the next stitch (remember to work in your ends at the beginning of each round!)
  • CH2
  • DC into the next 2 stitches
  • CH2
  • Continue this pattern until you get to the end of the round
  • SS into the top of the CH3 (change colour now)

Round 3:

  • CH3
  • 2 DC into the CH2 space between the sets of DC
  • In that same space CH2 then do another 2 DC, so in the one space you will have 2 DC followed by CH2 and another 2 DC
  • Follow this same pattern until you get to the end of the round
  • In the last space the CH3 counts as the last DC, so in that last space you will only have to do 2 DC, CH2 then 1 DC
  • SS into the top of the CH3 (change colour now)

Round 4:

  • After changing colour, work 1 SC into the first stitch
  • Find the first space between the first set of DC
  • Work 5 DC into this space
  • Into the next space work 1 SC
  • Into the next space work 5 DC
  • Then into the next space work 1 SC
  • Continue this pattern until you get to the end of the round
  • To finish your work, work a SS into the very first SC
  • Before cutting your thread, pull it through to make a loop for hanging, then tie this off in a double knot
  • You can now cut off your thread

Congratulations! You have now (hopefully) made the first of these Christmas decorations!  But be warned, they are a bit addictive so be prepared to make lots 🙂
